THERAPY THROUGH A CHILD’S NATURAL LANGUAGE

Play therapy uses the language of play to meet children ages 3 through 12 where they are.

Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling or what they have experienced. Play gives them another way to communicate, explore emotions, make sense of experiences, and work through difficult moments in a safe and supported environment.

WHAT PLAY THERAPY CAN SUPPORT
  • Recognizing, expressing, and processing emotions
  • Building self-esteem and confidence
  • Improving social and relationship skills
  • Reducing anxiety, fear, and emotional overwhelm
  • Developing emotional regulation and coping strategies
  • Working through difficult experiences, transitions, and trauma
  • Strengthening problem-solving skills and resilience
  • Understanding and responding to behavioral needs
WHAT A SESSION MAY INCLUDE
  • Imaginative and symbolic play
  • Art and creative expression
  • Stories, figures, toys, and games
  • Movement and sensory-based activities
  • Practicing emotional identification and regulation
  • Exploring relationships, fears, changes, and experiences

PLAY IS PURPOSEFUL

Play therapy is not simply free time or entertainment. The playroom provides a structured and intentional environment where children can explore experiences at a pace that feels manageable to them.

The goal is not to force a child to talk, perform, or respond in a particular way. The goal is to build safety, trust, and opportunities for the child to communicate in the ways that come most naturally.

Children do not need perfect words in order to be understood.
